A scholarly edition prototype, including born-digital and paper genetic materials
Genetic witnesses
The short story "En mer" was first conceived for the radio in 1998. The following year, it has been published in La Nouvelle Revue Française. During the first decade of the 2000s, the story has been included in a project for a collection of short stories, which leads to the publication of Tout passe in 2011 (winner of the Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle). An unfinished project, probably pursued during the years 2006-2009, envisaged the extension of "En mer" into a novel.
All the known genetic witnesses of "En mer" are listed below. They are preserved at the Swiss Literary Archives (SLA) / Archives littéraires suisse (ALS). The short story has been translated into Italian by Sandra Teroni, but the translation witnesses are not included here.

Born-digital witnesses
The hard drive on which the digital witnesses were stored was created for the delivery to the SLA by the author. The author retrieved it once the files were saved on the servers of the SLA.
The files metadata are retrieved by the archives using the software Droid.
Most of the paper witnesses, described above, are computer printouts. We can therefore assume that many more digital versions have existed.
